Toyota Tacoma vs. Tundra

Toyota Tacoma vs. Tundra

Toyota’s Tacoma and Tundra have for long been hailed as two of the best pick-up trucks in America. But which is the better one for you?

Fuel economy & performance
The Tacoma comes with a standard 2.5 liters, 4 cylinders, 159 horsepower engine which offers a torque of 180 lb.-ft. Higher variants come with a 265 lb.ft and 278 horsepower 3.5L DOHC V6 engine. In comparison, the Tundra comes with a 327 lb.-ft. and 310 horsepower 4.6L i-FORCE V8 engine, with a 6-speed transmission. Higher trims have a 5.7L i-FORCE V8 engine that offers 401 lb.-ft. torque and 381 horsepower.

Exteriors
When it comes to size, nothing can beat the Tundra. It is a considerably large pick-up truck and a veritable road hog. The Tacoma, on the other hand, is a mid-size truck that is similar to look at, but only smaller. The grilles on the Tacoma are much sturdier and larger in size. But the slanted lights on the Tacoma also take the edge off the bulky grille. This makes the Tacoma more premium-looking between the two, while the Tundra is more rugged.

Interiors
Power windows, doors, locks, mirrors and power cameras are common in both cars. In terms of seating, the Tacoma’s Access cab can seat 4 adults, while the double cab can seat 6. Leather interiors are optional. The Tundra has a much larger cabin and comes with power-controlled seats. The dashboard has a fully-equipped 4.2-inches driver display gauge. In addition, all higher models come with heated leather seats.

Safety
As far as pickups go, both Tundra and Tacoma offer excellent control both on & off-road. While both incorporate a full suite of safety features including adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, rear cross-traffic detection, and blind spot monitoring, the Tacoma performs better on the IIHS crash test.

Verdict
The Toyota Tundra, with its immense space and excellent towing capacity, is a great investment if you want a powerful pick-up. But the Tacoma is excellent if you are willing to sacrifice space and towing capacity for comfort, safety, and aesthetics.
